The organza is cut to reveal scroll like designs in the golden and burnt orange silk. There is also elaborate stitching atop the organza. Letters in black velvet read L’chvod Shabbat V’yom Tov. It is a challah cover that can be used on both the Sabbath and on holidays. It is bordered in a talit like fabric in black and white and paisley. There are 2” circles sewn into the cover with silk cording. They extend and drape over the challah creating an interesting visual effect. These particular circles are each filled with a z’mirah or song for the Sabbath with each line filling a circle. It is also possible for each dropped circle to be filled with family names of parents, children and grandchildren thus lending an heirloom quality to the cover. It can be passed down from generation to generation. I like to think of these circles as cycles of life. See next challah cover |
